You guys are amazing! We ended up with sooooo many questions! It was very VERY hard to narrow it down to 9! I tried to get a good mix of serious and silly while avoiding the spoilers. Let’s see if I can pull this off!!
As far as the first question goes there ARE more races in the EfE world but I didn’t want to talk about them before they showed up. So, instead I wanted to focus on the races that have been at least mentioned so far. As stated all elves do speak a form of Elvish but in different dialects. Think British English vs American English vs Australian English. They’re all basically the same language. The speakers would all be able to communicate. But there are obvious differences.
The second question was just an excuse to draw a blushy Rolan- I mean… What?
The third… well… I suppose sometimes I can be a tad silly.

Mmm… Yes… It would quite make sense indeed, should the elves have at least one common language, as was hinted at by the fact that all but the high elves have been regularly meeting up at at least *that* festival together for quite some time.
Nonetheless, very nice, being able to concretely know there is a single language of the elves, even if their spread out locations has lead to somewhat different customs and derivatives of it.
Also, with regards to Drethalrolan, I am guessing that High Elves have just gotten their mannerisms and formalities so refined as to normally not have need of any sort of apology, as they are aware of what lines would be disadvantageous to cross for most people. To bring one another any form of indignation and insult therefore would be thought of as a result of the lact of courteous attitude and grace for the elf who had not taken said insult. Their seperation from the other cultures for hundreds of years likely has caused the effect to be measurably more apparent than if they had had contact in any form over that time.
Oh, and to be fair, other races had already been mentioned, if not by name.
Your interpretation of the mannerisms of High Elves is not too far off. I don’t want to go into too much detail but what it boils to is High Elves are very much more refined and more subdued in their emotions and relations. Their customs much more formal and almost distant.
Buuuut…. Rolan is a tad young… Hasn’t quite had the time to ‘perfect’ this yet.

Love it, love it, Loooovveee it! I like the idea of the same basic language, but different dialects, as this is very true of a lot of real-life “modern languages” such as English and Spanish. Different parts of the country might speak with a heavier accented dialect, such as with a “Southern” dialect or a “Boston dialect,” but most of us speak at least one form of basic English. Spanish also has different accents and dialects, like basic Espanol and Castillian Spanish as well. So it makes perfect sense that the different tribes of Elves would all speak basic Elvish with different “accents” and dialects! Poor Rolan. That’s still not clear, pal, but thanks for attempting to answer the question. And I STILL like my song, “It’s raining Elves!” A GREAT page Naarie. More questions!
This is exactly where I got my inspiration. Living in California I’ve been exposed to all kinds of peoples hailing from all over the United States and the world and yet we’re all able to communicate with each other through one core language.
We may not all sound the same, get the same jokes and references or use the same slang and turns of phrase but we can still share ideas and establish relationships.
This is the kind of feel I really wanted to give off.
Have you ever heard Pittsburghese? I don’t normally use it, but I know how to use some of it. Also according to my uncle, Pittsburghers (along with the rest of western Pennsylvania) are hillbillies. Urban hillbillies, who knew?

Also, the idea of the different dialects is cool. It makes it seem more realistic since they’re all elves, rather than each elf kind speaking a different language.
I feel responsible for the existence of Anti-Tanna (I asked the question about Tanna as a High Elf in the last Q&A). I guess this is an ongoing thing now.
Personally, I want to see an action scene where Rolan gets a “Things just got serious” face on.

For the comic in general?
Yes. Fonts always interest me (except the abominable Comic Sans MS), and it’s useful to keep a stock of different types for if I need to do text replacement of some kind. Not specifically on EfE, but I don’t have this one yet and it could be useful elsewhere.
It’s on my computer at home with the link to the site that I got it off of. It’s a free font so you don’t have to pay for it. I’ll let you know.
