The thing is, I wanted to use can’t and it does sound better, however later dialog makes it so that i couldn’t have her say that.

Come on now, you know the formula of Main Character choosing between 2 love interests. Either 1 dies and she’s forced to take the other out of consolation, or she never chooses and just leads them on. It’s a time old tradition and who are we to break it? Oh wait, WE CAN!!!!!
