Tried something a little different on this page with panel 6. Archmage suggested that when a character is talking “off screen” to do this sort of inverted word bubble thing. It’s an interesting idea but not sure how I feel about it in practice yet…
I’d just go with the regular bubble without it pointing anywhere.
So 1 vote for regular bubble…
Panel 6 = emotional connection win
You’re wearing red boot now… aren’t you.
Red COWBOY boots.
I think the inverted word bubble works just fine. And Zalanna for the save. Poor Tanna, If I could hug her I would right now.
Awwww… That’s sweet. Not sure how Tanna would feel about that right now but it’s sweet nonetheless! XD
And 1 vote for inverted bubble.
Score is currently tied 1/1!
If you’re counting the inverted bubble responses, then I also have no problem with it. I see it used in many comics, and the only time it ever is a problem is when we are unclear who is speaking.
The only other options are to have bubble arrows stretch across other panels, or have a picture of the persons face inside the bubble.
For this situation, where you want the focus on her emotional response, the low-profile inverted bubble is your best choice.

You don’t know the half of it.
Well, you can suck me off, because that’s the only way you’re getting the wine from me now, bitch.
