What you create a site you are going to need content. The more people have access to, the more your site is going to keep people coming back.
There are 1 of 2 thing that will happen when you start deciding what pages you want to have on your site. The first is…
You know what, I don’t really want to talk about websites today. And this is my blog so, here’s the real topic, (I’ll do pages on Friday):
Recently I’ve been watching the 1992 X-men cartoon for the first time since I was… younger, and something surprises me is how constant the story is. Just within the first few episodes, everything is setting up for later episodes. They sow the seeds for character development early on, and then actually address those issues only as late as 4 episodes later. In the second episode, Storm is shown to have claustrophobia and this is something that she is dealing with quite frequently. It’s stuff like this that Cartoons and Anime today are lacking.
About 4 years ago, I was full on into the Bleach Anime. The first 80ish episodes were good; there was character development, plot twists, cool action scenes… it had one of the best villain reveals I have ever seen in anime, and that was because of the build up. That’s something that X-Men is doing really well right now, they are building the characters up and developing them so deeply, that when they get to some of the later stuff these characters are so grounded that we are invested when things happen to them.
I don’t remember everything from the series since I missed the first 3 seasons because I lived out of the country, and I don’t know how well it holds up for 5 seasons, but if it can keep the momentum and quality I won’t need to put on my nostalgia goggles to love it. It’s the momentum that stories today fall short on. Going back to Bleach, everything after the Soul Society arc, just seemed like a cookie cutter replica of every other Shonen Fighting Anime, so I lost interest.
I would say that they just don’t make ‘em like they used to, but that’s not true. There are plenty of series out there are are just as good as the old series. One would be Eden of the East. This story is like Lost, in that I have no idea what is going on, but as I find out more… I want to watch more. The characters are developing nicely even though I’m only 4 episodes in, and I don’t see how they’re going to get through all of the plot in 11 episodes. If you haven’t seen it, I would suggest checking it out, they have the entire series up on Netflix.
Something that Naarie is trying to do with this comic is tell a story, as the editor I’m trying to make sure that continuity of characters are there. If something happens to a character that seems impacting, we’re going to make sure that it has a clear place within the character, since they aren’t just these no emotion dolls with shallow reactions to the world around them. We are not going to mold the cookie cutter and keep pounding away at some pre-made dough just because we think it’s working. That’s not going to keep you here, and that’s not going to get more people to start reading.
If you have suggestions or comment, please let us know what it is you liked or didn’t like and why. You saying, “This is Awesome, keep it up” is nice to hear, but it’s just as useful to us as, “WTF BBQ GDIAF.” This is Naarie’s first comic, if you look at the backlog you can already see in the 9 pages she’s done so far, the drawing technique, backgrounds, and shading have gotten better. Part of that is with your input, the backgrounds take a lot of time and since you’ve said that you like the detail, she’s going to keep it up.
Next time I promise, I’ll talk about pages.
